Family that hides the truth from terminally ill patients are being selfish. They mostly just can't talk about it so it seems better to pretend it isn't happening. What they are doing to the patient is robbing him/her of taking full advantage of those final days. It isn't just that the patient can't prepare to die;it is that the patient doesn't feel the need to live the time to the fullest if he/she doesn't know how limited that time is.
I know that time of death is never exact, but knowing one has a few months left may mean that Alaska cruise. A few weeks might mean that final trip to a wonderful museum. A few days might mean that one tells loved ones how one feels - good and bad feelings.
